During May, our partner and PhD student Michael Papanikolaou participated in a two-week Erasmus+ research mobility program at École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) in Paris under the supervision of Professor Ioanna Rapti.
The research focused on the approach to lighting design in Byzantine churches, particularly in relation to the perception of sacredness and to the Orthodox worship tradition and intended to evaluate the option of the relevant approach and of incumbent technologies to be adapted to the genius loci of Orthodox sacred spaces.
In the framework of this program, Michael presented his research in two postgraduate seminars at Sorbonne University, hosted by Professors Ioanna Rapti and Béatrice Caseau, Director of the History Department (UFR d’Histoire) at the Faculty of Humanities.
The mobility also encompassed collaboration meetings with leading researchers, curators, and lighting designers, including Brigitte Pitarakis, Maréva U, Nadine Schibille, Dragan Kovacevic, Raphaëlle Ziadé, Adrien Palladino and Akari-Lisa Ishii.
